Sri Lanka issued a new 1000 Rupees banknote to mark the 70th Anniversary of Independence

 

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka issued a new 1000 Rupees banknote to mark the 70th Anniversary of Independence on April 2, 2018. This is the 4th commemorative note issued by the Central Bank.

The size, predominant color, the security features and the design on the back of this note are the same as that in the current 1000 Rupees. The design on the front has been modified as follows:

1. Celebrating Diversity logo appears at the lower left corner instead of the butterfly
2. Images of a Temple, Mosque, Tamil Kovil and a Church appears at the center instead of the image of Ramboda Tunnel
3. Prefix of the note appears as S70 instead of S.

 

 

A quantity of 5 million notes will be issued and the serial numbers range from S70/1 000001 – S70/5 1000000. The date on the note is 2018.02.04.

The commemorative note will be released for circulation from June 2, 2018.
