Saudi Arabia will issue sixth edition banknotes on December 26, 2016

The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) will issue sixth edition banknotes on December 26, 2016.

The new banknotes are the same size as the old notes, so will continue to work with existing sticks in Saudi banks and in ATMs.

However, the new notes incorporate security print features that make them less prone to forgery, SAMA said in a statement on its website.

The sixth issue has been released under the motto, "Confidence and security".

The face of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud adorns the SR5, SR10, SR50 and SR100 notes, while the SR500 notes feature the image of the kingdom's founder, King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud.
